Navigating the encyclopedia
The encyclopedia network is divided into main encyclopedia sets. Currently two sets are under development, the Encyclopedia of Southern Appalachian, and the Encyclopedia of Southern Forest Science. The main unit of the encyclopedia system is the page. Pages are organized in a hierarchal fashion so that pages can contain a number of sub pages and so on. You can browse the network by first selecting an encyclopedia set from the main menu bar under “Encyclopedias”. Once you have entered an encyclopedia set, the first layer of pages that an encyclopedia contains is added to the main menu bar. Each section of an encyclopedia will contain numerous pages. You can browse these pages with the local navigation tree on the left hand side of the screen. Pages that contain sub pages are represented with a plus symbol on the left. To expand the tree and show sub pages, simply click on the plus icon. Once a section is expanded the plus will change into a dash. You can collapse an opened section by clicking on the dash. |
