Creating Encyclopedia Pages
Creating encyclopedia pages is the backbone of the FEN authoring process. This page explains how to edit existing pages, create new pages, and manipulate pages such as assigning multiple parents to a page and influencing the page display order in the navigation system. How best to write pages is discussed in the section on Authoring Style Guides.
Editing Existing Pages
Let's get started and learn how to edit an existing page. A new FEN contribution must begin with an existing parent page. The application to author that you submitted will have resulted in your being allowed to edit one or a few existing parent pages. Look for a Pencil Icon in the upper right hand corner of your assigned parent page and click on that icon. This action will create an editable version of the published parent page. You may now use the windows editor provided to you to make changes to the parent page. For example, you will want to alter the text to introduce the new section of material that you will be contributing. Once you have made those changes, move to the bottom of the page using the slide bar at the right side of your screen. You will see a button at the bottom labeled SAVE -- click on it. You will be reurned to the edit screen to continue your editing process. When you are finished, go to the bottom of the page again and this time select SAVE AND VIEW THIS PAGE. You will now see the VIEW version of the Editable page. At the top of the page, there will appear an information message which says:
You are viewing an edited version of this content. This material will not be publicly available until it has successfully completed the publishing process.
In order to let users continue to browse the published pages, we make a copy of each page that is being edit for updating. We call this copy the editable page in contrast to the published page. That allows you, the author, to make changes to FEN in the background while at the same time leaving all published material available for non-author users.
